The Transportation, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management (TLSCM) at Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) is taught in the heart of Puget Sound. Located just outside of Seattle in Kirkland, WA, LWTech offers classes that fit your life. Students in the Transportation, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management program can earn a Bachelor of Applied Science in Transportation, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management (BASTLSCM) and a Certificate of Completion in Business Management.

The Transportation, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management is all about the business of moving and storing goods around the country and around the world. The transportation industry includes positions such as business analysts, transportation managers, warehouse/distribution center managers, logisticians, operations managers, supply chain planners, and procurement specialist to name the least.

Entry-level positions in Transportation, Logistics, and Suply Chain Management industry start in salary ranges of $40k to $60K. The employment sector includes state and local governments, federal agencies, and private companies in the Seattle area, such as Boeing, FedEx, UPS, Costco, Nordstrom, Amazon, PACCAR, Alaska Airlines, Walmart, and Burlington Northern, and Santa Fe Railway. 

The Business Management certificate provides skills in business management basics such as accounting, finance, marketing, economics, management, and business law. The certificate of completion equips students with experience for increased responsibility in business management jobs such as restaurant manager, marketing coordinator, business analyst, general/operations manager, and small business owner.

The primary purpose of the program is to provide students with the expertise they need to become effective and professional managers in private or public agencies involved with transportation, logistics and supply chain.

Goals

Provide

  • Specialized knowledge of carrier/transportation management, business logistics, supply chain, transportation economics, and public policy in transportation and supply chain.
  • Sound background in finance, accounting, marketing, operations management, and business policy/strategic management.
  • Excellent training in computer and quantitative methods.
  • Effective training in critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and negotiating ability.
  • All program courses are taught by industry executives or senior managers.
  • All required courses are offered on weekday evenings.
  • The program is nationally recognized.
  • Classes are designed for the working professional with most courses offered in the evening as hybrids (online and face-to face), with a single meeting per week.
  • Degree typically takes two years of full-time study to complete. Classes are taught by senior industry managers, many of whom are military veterans.
  • Aligned with SOC codes, allowing students to gain college credits for prior military experience.
  • Connections to professional organizations including the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, Transportation Club of Seattle, and the Warehousing Education and Research Council.
  • Scenario designs and software applications address supply chain problems and financial considerations that affect global trade.

Entry into the Transportation, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management (TLSCM) program requires completion of LWTech's general online application.

Additional admission requirements are listed below. 

The Bachelor of Applied Science Transportation, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management (BASTLSCM) cohorts are selected on a competitive basis. Interested students will need to fill out an application for acceptance into the BASTLSCM program. Application deadlines and qualification requirements are unique to this program.

Admission each quarter is dependent on a space available basis. 

BAS Prerequisites

  1. If you have not already taken classes at Lake Washington Institute of Technology, you must fill out the online admissions application to receive a Student ID number and an LWTech issued email address. 
    • You will not be able to fill out the BAS application without completing this step.
  2. Completion of requirements for an Associate degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited institution in an appropriate transportation, business administration, management, or operations-related program or its equivalent with an overall minimum 2.0 GPA in all coursework.
  3. Admission to the program may occur when any 15 credits of the following can be documented:
    1. 5 college-level credits in each: English Composition, Quantitative Reasoning, Social Science, and Humanities.
    2. 10 credits must have been earned in Natural Sciences, with 5 of those in a lab science course, all with a minimum grade of 2.0 in each course.

This program includes a “Bridge” quarter, such that remaining prerequisites defined above may be taken post program admittance, but prior to admittance to the junior year of the program. The bridge may consist of 0-30 credits.

Transportation, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management BAS Application

The Certificate of Completion in Business Management requires coursework in upper-division levels. To be eligible to enroll in upper-division courses, a student (including non-matriculating students enrolled in prerequisite or co-requisite courses leading to upper-division coursework) must meet “Junior standing” based on earned credits or past degree awards. “Junior standing” is defined as a student who has completed an associate degree or higher, or 90+ college-level credits.

It is the student's responsibility to consult the Class Schedule and work out an individual schedule with an advisor or counselor. Any developmental coursework a student might be required to complete may increase the program length.
