The Human Resource Management program at Lake Washington Institute of Technology prepares students to meet the growing need for human resource (HR) professionals in the Seattle area and beyond. This program gives graduates the competitive advantage needed to secure or advance a career, helping businesses find and grow their most important asset: their employees. Whether students are looking to enter the HR field for the first time or are HR professionals seeking professional certification or recertification credits, there are classes to meet all students' educational goals. There are over 20 specific HR classes targeted to advance your career. The curriculum is based on extensive research and recommendations by HR Certification Institute (HRCI®), the Society for HR Management (SHRM®), and practicing HR professionals.
Individuals may want to take one class, several classes, or complete a certificate or degree in HR:
Human Resources education is essential for business leaders and owners so they may learn strategies to attract, motivate, and retain their talent.
For the convenience and preference of learners, classes are offered remotely and in person. HR classes are held in the evenings and hybrid, combining instructor-lead (synchronous) and online (asynchronous) education. Typically, this means students are with instructors every other week on Microsoft Teams or on the Kirkland campus and then work online at their own pace in alternating weeks. Weeks usually alternate, so typically in a ten-week quarter there would be five synchronous and five asynchronous classes.
Participate in an award-winning active Society of HR Management through membership in the LWTech Society for HR (SHRM®) Student chapter that helps with the transition from student to the HR professional.
Instructors have a genuine interest in students' success and are committed to helping them make the most of their education. The program emphasizes applied learning in the human resources field. Curriculum focuses on evolving real-world best HR practices to make learning fun. Small class sizes offer personalized instruction from instructors working as HR professionals that are certified by HRCI® and SHRM-CP® or SHRM-SCP®.
All courses have been pre-approved for HRCI® and SHRM® SHRM-CP/SCP® recertification credits (50 credits for one 5-credit class) SHRM-CP®or SHRM-SCP® recertification credits. Students can also earn recertification hours towards PHR®, SPHR®, and GPHR®.
