International Student High School Completion

LWTech’s High School Completion Program offers students an opportunity to earn both high school and college credits at the same time. Students earn a Washington State US high school diploma that is recognized around the world.

Admission Requirements

Minimum Age Requirements

High School Completion is open to all students 16 years or older by the time they enter the program. Note that students do not need to be 16 years old to apply—students who are 15 years old, but will turn 16 by the start date of the specific quarter when they intend to start the program can submit an application.

Additional Requirements

  • Students must have completed the equivalent of 10th grade.
  • Complete LWTech’s International Student Application procedures. English Proficiency requirements are outlined on the application and website.
  • Submit an official high school transcript (in English) with your application.
  • All LWTech academic degree and certificate programs require English proficiency. Students who have not attained English proficiency will be accepted to our Intensive English Program (IEP). IEP offers a pathway for entrance to our academic degree programs.

Meeting English Proficiency Requirements

You can meeting the English proficiency requirements with TOEFL iBT 70 (minimum of Reading-15, Listening-15, Speaking-18, and Writing-21) or IELTS 6.0 (minimum 6.0 each section) provide proof of English proficiency.

Students coming to LWTech without English minimum proficiency will be accepted to our Intensive English Language Program.

Transcripts

You must submit transcripts for evaluation for all completed coursework that is equivalent to US grade levels 9, 10, 11 and 12 (or any of those levels that you have completed). Transcripts must be translated and can be submitted along with your application. Please note, all math classes must be specifically translated into the following math subjects: Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-calculus, etc. Transcripts will be evaluated by the High School Completion Personnel

 

High School Completion Timeline

The amount of time it will take to finish high school will depend on your how many years you attended high school. Depending on your English placement, students with qualified English proficiency who have finished the 10th grade in their home country can earn the high school diploma in 2 years, and gain college credit at the same time toward their Associate degree. We can give you an estimate of how long it will take after your high school transcripts have been evaluated. 

Completion Requirements

High School Courses

The State of Washington High School Diploma requires course credits in English, math, social studies, science, occupational education, physical education, art, and electives. Your high school transcripts will be evaluated to determine which courses you have already taken and which courses you will need to take at LWTech.

Required courses for a high school diploma include:

  • English
  • Math
  • Social Studies
  • U.S. History
  • Contemporary World History, Geography, and Problems
  • Washington State History
  • Science
  • Occupational Education
  • Physical Education/Health
  • Fine Art
  • Electives
  • Student Success course (to meet High School and Beyond Plan requirement)

Exams

If you are under 21, you will need to take either the SAT or ACT. If you are over 21, you do not need to take an exit exam.

Advising

High School Completion and degree advising are required prior to enrollment each quarter. You are required to minimum 2.0 GPA and 12 credits earned per quarter. A Washington State Diploma is issued by Lake Washington Institute of Technology.
